ARM
MiDs netbooks and smartbooks
http://blogs.arm.com/smart-mobile-devices/arm-community-at-computex-wrapup/

Elitegroup - Huge line-up of netbooks.
Pegatron - Update
MIO GPS smartpbook

Other manufacturers we saw:
Nvidia - Tegra smartbook MID. ION Netbook graphics.
Freescale - MID Android.
Ti
Qualcom
ARM in general.
VIA -

Discussion points:

* User experience.
* OS
* Browser
* Speed
* Timescales
* Positioning
* Battery life
* Price
* General discussion point - http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/305564/never_mind_netbook_here_smartbook?fp=2&fpid=2

Intel said they can make a better smartbook.

Intel:
Moorestown smartbooks.
Flash, runtime (AIR, Android)
Smartphones
720p recording.
Long standby
Moblin2 and Wind River

Staying with Intel. Menlow continues as the XP platform
No windows on Moorestown. At least the initial or primary version of it.

UMPCs

* Compal KAX-15
* Digicube on Menlow
* XPPhone - Geode
* Viliv X70 EX
* Inproved Viliv S7
* Archos 9 (not at computex)
* MIDPhone (not at computex)

Moving up the chain....

How about Pineview for netbooks and high-end UMPCs?
We didn't get GPU info although there are some rumors around.
Why? What will it bring? Is it a risk to move from the trusted platform?
Cost? Efficiency? Power? Video decoding.

Netbooks continued....

netbooks wave continue - a ton of new designs but nothing groundbreaking except....
Nvidia ION
Multitouch T91
Moblin 2 for netbooks
What about Win 7. Will think slow down now as we move towards September/October

Hands-on with Pixel Qi's new Epaper screen

Click to see the video

What a mobile user would want more than longer battery life and better view ability?

In short:

- When backlight is turned of,Pixel Qi screen uses only 0.8 watts compared to typical 2.5 watts

- Their aim is to bring the drain down to 0.2 watts in next 6 months

- When backlight is on, it is uses same amount of power as a normal screen but is much brighter.

- When backlight is turned of,Pixel Qi screen is black and white.

Thanks a million Pixel Qi for letting me test it
