What is that new bulge in the bottom, cornered by the bottom hatch and the battery? Do you have any pictures of the current insides of this baby? :)

JKK said...

That bulge is my modded SIM card slot for 3G modem.. easy to swap as I don't need to power of to insert the SIM..

current insides of my modded 900A or stock?

Stock one dissected here:

I will post my 3G mod on 900A later..

Can this adapter also replace the Wlan module?

JKK said...

Nope, you can't use it on Wlan slot

what battery do your have?

JON4THAN said...

this is great mod chip!

just 1 question tho, if i had a pretty fast ZIF SSD, and used that PCI-E to ZIF, would it slower the read n write speed??

He has a modified 8700 mAh battery, with the cells inside it from the battery of the new 901 (sold in France) and 1000HE models, and the outer shell is from his old Mugen 6-cell battery he used with the older Eee models.

If you need a battery for your 900A, search eBay for a AL22-703 battery. There seem to be many types available now, up to 6 and 8 cell batteries. One of the best seems to be a 7200 mAh 6-cell battery that won't bulge out a lot at all.

One of the USB soldering points is marked as '+5V', where do they get the 5V from?
jkk, do you know which pin of the PCI-E SSD slot has +5V?

Anonymous said...

Hey, what about the +5V rail? Can I get +5V internally from my EeePC without breaking any seals and maybe even without soldering to the original PCB?

Anonymous said...

I used an Mtron 32 gb SSD and it is lighting fast. A bit costly but better than just about any SSD you can get. Also, is there an available deeper plastic hatch to allow for the additional HD?

i just bought a samsung 1.8 inches hdd model HS161jq... any idea how to make it work with this little adaptor? i think the zif cabe is different and some people says that it is a sata interface... i am a bit confused

raxy said...

HS161jq is CEATA and not sata.

joerg schneider from germany said...

dear jkk, as seen in your modding video for the 901 i bought an adapter from pcie to zif and an hdd from toshiba with 30gb. now the problem is that the hdd is not seen in my bios and in my hardwaremanager. i´m no newby in that but i have no answer for that problem. As a modding-god could you give me a reply or any tips to solve my problem??? so many thanks when you give me an answer. regards from germany...

Anonymous said...

thanks for the reply, indeed the hs161jq is ce-ata, i bought a ce-ata usb case on ebay... unfortunately the zif connector on the hdd is a lot smaller than traditionnal hitachi or toshiba hdd... if anyone knows a workaround, i would grately appreciate

can i use this adapter in my 901 without removing the 1st 4gb ssd?because i read that there will be conflicts is i dont remove it

Anonymous said...

I have an 901A and I bought the adapter plus an 1,8'' Toshiba 60GB HDD. I had to remove both SSDs in order for the HDD to work (bios couldn't recognize it) but now I can close the backplate lid because the HDD plus the adapter don't allow it.. is there a solution to this ? can I get something from ebay for example ?

Anonymous said...

possible to keep the 4gb ssd on a 901?

heard about a workaround but got no info yet.

for what is the MASTER SLAVE selector on the zif adaptor when i have to put out all ssd?

doudou63 said...

On 901, primary 4go sdd must be removed

Impossible to work!!!
Because, before you must remove the SSD 4 GB (XP or Linux)
Conflit Mini PCI!!!

I have EEE PC 901 and want to be able to use my 64GB CF card with it to increase storage & speed. Exactly which adapter will I need
CF SD to Mini PCI-E Adapter SSD for ASUS EBAY item #200372387195
OR 1.8" ZIF SSD HDD to mini PCI-e Adapter EBAY item #220442923472
It seems that according to JKK a ZIP cable is necessary?? I am confused! Also is it necessary to remove the 4GB or can that stay intact? If anyone has step by step for what to do after successful installation let me know. THANKS

JKK said...

u can use the cf to pcie adapter... u need to disable the internal 4gb ssd

Anonymous said...

Isn't the OS on the internal built 4GB SSD? If so, how do I move it to the CF? Do I just disable the 4GB SSD or remove it? Also I found this card
CF SD to Mini PCI-E Adapter SSD for ASUS Eee PC 901 us3 EBAY item #200372387195. Says that it can hold both a CF card & SDHC card & both can be used at the same time. Have you tried this? It is not expensive so I am hoping it will work- what do you think? I have a 64gb CF card from my Fujitsu U810 lifebook which I sold so I want to be able to sue it for the EEE 901. Thanks for your videos

DPK said...

Dear All,

I want to get rid of the SSD and use the mentioned 1.8'' Toshiba HDD 60Gb MK6008GAH to be used with ZIF CE to mini PCI-E Express adapter on my 901.

Before I purchase it, please I would like to verify whether its compatible? If yes...

Do I need to physically remove all SSD's? (Primary 4Gb & Secondary 12Gb) or just disable them from the bios & will work normally?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Need help. How to remove the 4Go SDD on 901 ?

Thank you

Unknown said...

You need to remove the keyboard and the cover. Then, lift the mainboard and you will find the primary SSD on the bottom side of the right front corner. Or to put it that way, right unter the SSD sticker.
