ATTO test on compressed OS drive: ( Dell uses compression?! )
Note that ATTO is giving 10 times better results as the compression was on.
Testing more right now ... will take some time to disable the compression..
UPDATE: here are the results without the compression
..and again looking at the write speeds where the bottle neck is, I would recommend SLC ones.
Even the STEC has good read speed, XP feels slow and laggy with it.. way slower on use than Eee 901 etc.

Liliputing joins jkkmobile and UMPCPortal team
Product Pages is the best database to find information about mobile computing. Now it will be even better..
Liliputing is joining us with their netbook expertise and will be entering netbook device information and links to important news items. With Liliputing, jkkmobile and UMPCPortal working together we’ll be able to continue to offer one of the best resources on the Internet for consumer research in the MID, UMPC and Netbook product categories.
About 100,000 people visit the product database every month where they view over 160 devices, a huge database of links to hand-picked news items, links to important videos, pricing information, user feedback and statistical information. With this partnership, the database has already grown to over 200 products and a sharp increase in visitor numbers is expected which will help generate revenue that can be put back into developing even more features for the database. Let us know what features you want to see in the database and we’ll add them to the to-do list.
We’re already talking to other potential partners and expects to make a further announcement soon. Again, product coverage will widen and customers will get even more detail about their favorite products.

HP Mini Note to get VIA Nano cpu and other upgrades
Nano netbooks coming in January...
Sascha is reporting that we will see the first VIA Nano based devices in CES at January..
.. and that one of the first devices is HP Mini note.
As HP has been showing this red netbook ( hope it won't stay red ) and as it should be available in Q1 2009 it all matches nicely.. and as a added bonus, S3 Graphics has just announced their Chrome 400 Ultra Low Power graphics processor.
We have seen S3 on many VIA based devices so there is high possibility that we will see VIA Nano + S3 netbooks pretty soon..
Thanks Sascha

Dual core Atom on netbook?
I know there are people waiting to to get one...
UPDATED
Continue reading...
... but it will not happend.
Intel has been talking about dual core Atom and always saying it's for nettops.
It has 8w TDP compared to 2.5w on N270 so it gives about 25% less battery life on the current netbooks.
But that's not all:
I just got info that Intel will not let oems to use it on netbooks
More about that later.
... So if you were waiting for one, stop waiting and buy something that is available.
UPDATE: I got my info from a OEM that is making Atom based netbooks. They don't want me to publish who they are.
.. Intel said to them that they don't sell Atom 330 for netbooks.
.. 25% less battery life figure came from them.. Atom 330 uses more power than Atom N270 on any use
.. Atom 330 would need much more cooling -> size/weight and price problems
.. they also say that Intel Atom 330 is not even compatible with the platforms used with N270, as it is made for desktops. ( I didn't get info about the actual difference )
My thoughts: Atom 330 is for desktop use ( nettops ) and Intel doesn't want it on mobile systems , but there could be a Atom N330 with lower TDP .. for netbooks. But as it hasn't been even announced yet, it might take some time.
So.. if you ask me should you wait for dual core Atom netbook, I'd have to say no.
