seems to be a whole lot of fn-stuff one the number keys tho.
Well, everthing non-standard seems to be unusable for everyone. If you cant handle small devices, dont buy them.I can see function keys and dont mind that they need to be activated with an extra key (double occupancy or how ever its called) like on many other devices.
Lazy people !
What I dont understand why Dell puts in some way too small and **** slow SSD,hello ?
So its Everun Note (if price is right/if it comes to Europe) or Wind with synaptic-touchpad and 6-cell for me,still.
Everyone is mesmerized by the alleged $299 price point - but do you really want a 4gb ssd and 512mb ram netbook? How much will this thing cost when it has the same features of the Aspire One or the Ideapad S10?
When they say 1GB RAM max, do they mean SHIPPING or the motherboard can't handle MORE than 1GB?
I'd say shipping 1gb max...
Not too crazy about that battery. 2200mAh? Seems like a waste pairing that battery with the Atom.
$299 would be a nice price, but I imagine that is for the lowest configuration. Meaning that, for $299, you probably get 512MB RAM, 4gig Flash drive, Ubuntu (good, but you could get it for free anyway), and the 2200mAh battery. Still better than Eee PC 2G Surf at that price (if it's that price), but not really by that much.
I'd like to see how much it will cost with components matching something like the Eee 1000h...
That battery operates at 14V so it's 31 Watts.. almost same as on eee 900 ( 4400mAh 32.5 watts )
Ahh, yeah, didn't notice that. Still though... compared to the Eee 901 or 1000, it's not all that great.
(though at $299 it would be half the price, so that's also something to take into consideration)
Weak. Only a Dell fanboy could be impressed.
The Lenovo S10 is the new netbook to watch right now.
The Wind and Lenovo's are already too big for me at 10". I'm more interested in portability, so these 8.9" netbooks are my sweet spot.
This Dell looks nice, and the Ubuntu preload means I won't have to spend the night pouring over wikis and howtos. Sounds great to me.
And 512 megs of ram is quite fine for Ubuntu and a basic XP install. "Basic" being the key point of netbooks to begin with.
Without F Keys is not possible for me, but over all a nice device :-)
not many companies are offering Wwan.. which is probably the best thing u can have in a mobile netbook.
I just want one with 3G/HSDPA built in. I don't want a dongle hanging off the side which takes ages for the software to load and connect and drops the connection every time a train goes over the points (we're in England - that happens). I know it bumps up the price but how can it be a NetBook if it's not connected to anything?
f keys will most likely be a fn + 1 ect... is an extra key to press THAT much of a problem?
I used my sister's Acer One during a whole weekend (and I have meaty fingers) and loved it.
$340 and the Linux it runs is super simple and my 6 year old found game and the browser in no time.
THe 512mb ram is more than enough for Linux (My uncle has an 8-9 year old Thinkpad with 256mb ram that runs Linux).
I bought my sister an 8gb SD card and a 8gb USB key and they were each 29$ on special so she will choose one for her data. with her 8gb on board, that's 16gb which is about waht Ive been using for quite a few years on my old laptop (20gb.)
I've had good experiences with Dell and my wife loves her XPS so that's why we decided to wait for Dell to finally make up their mind but they are taking their sweet time.
C'mon Dell, shake a leg. You've already missed back to school.
The mainstream tech media is amazing when it comes to the netbook. They totally bypass this burgeoining market or just call it a fad to justify not having to talk about it. And the fear of Linux is palpable with their old 'Linux' has never had any traction excuse. Before Asus came out with the EEE, there was no Linux pre-installed on computers and THAT is how you get new users, not installing it on your mum's lappy. So what happens when Linux finally gets pre-installed on computers? Were not gonna talk about it. And the EEE was released last October so its not been even a year now that Linux is finally found on systems.
Actually, Im surprised the Dell netbook has gotten more traction. Its secretive, there are leaks helping fuel the gossip, no one is saying a thing... all they need to do is have Michael Dell wear a turtleneck and they could really please the Pavlovian media.
>but how can it be a NetBook if it's not >connected to anything?
Every netbook has wifi and connects to the internet. How is that not connected to anything?
were is the 3G/HSDPA on all 9"? .. why are they all doing the same mistake over and over again?
