My Kingdom for a bezel...

I like some of the design and the corner edges curves are sweet, but I don’t like the cut among the battery, it looks more like a shiny gadget mobile phone twice the price up and half the features down than regular ones. Computers aren’t to be made shiny especially if what it shines is chromed plastic. Sorry but overall I don’t like the new design. If it comes with bigger drive It might look more attractive after all.

Interesting, but I still prefer the older design for some reason. I wonder what the functions are for that row of chrome buttons.

Prefer the older design.

Where has the power button gone, I prefer it to be accessible without opening the screen for when it's plugged in to an external monitor.

The 900 has a power button that is accessible when the screen is shut, can anyone confirm that you can turn it on without opening the screen ?

For me computers should be black. I am not sure what the obsession with the white color is.

It just looks messy and bitsy. Chrome and white, mixed randomly. Could Asus have jumped the shark in the design department?

I don't know, it could be a prototype. I personally don't like the "Eee" on the back, and I also noticed some of the shots have a chrome border around the touchpad, and some have a white border.

To follow up on my previous comment, it could be reflection causing that.

I like how the new design is molded a lot nicer, much sleeker. However the Eee pc badging sucks and Asus will be going down hill if they arent careful.

The overall design is ok but its not so kind on the eye.

Asus branding is very important. Asus represent reliability, strength and experience and the badging is really nice.

Eee pc is kind of crap font styling for a branding, sub brand thats ok but main brand no way.
The emblem is in the top left corner making it look like a reject homebrand cheap chinese rip off.

Asus will drag away even more sales from there big rigs because people will liken to Eee not Asus.

Keeping the branding together i think its gonna make or break asus.

I want one in black with an ASUS badge thankyou.

Lets hope the Eee 901 has an extra PCIE mini slot or 2 for things like tv cards, gps, blue tooth etc.

The consumer should design the Eee among designers because at least we know what we want.

Jeez,

Please stop with the 'it must have x' comments.

Its doubled in price with the new additions.

I want it to remain a basic portable. If you want extra fancy bits go and buy a full blown laptop.

HP do a full featured dual core offering for £600 thats near enough as portable. It has all the bluetooth and touchscreen etc.

I dont care about the looks either, I want small, portable and sturdy.

Whats wrong with having slots to add your extra stuff in? I think the point he is trying to make is that yes it is portable but by having extra pciE mini slots you can buy the machine basic with the choice of adding your own goods.

I wouldnt mind running a tv card in my Eee with a bluetooth antenna :).

yeah i hate the font that they use for the Eee, to me it looks very cheap. Its the kind of font that I would have used at school on a stupid design project

Matthew, It's called spam when someone writes same stuff all over again..

.. If you want to comment on stuff go ahead, but as this is my blog, I decide what I want to see and what I don't.

You both crossed the line, which is very rare here..

EEE pc is useless without HSDPA....

"EEE pc is useless without HSDPA...."

I think so too..

.. but all people doesn't need it, so it should be an option.

Unknown said...

ECS G10IL will be standard with HSDPA and therefore they will get my money.

Anonymous said...

JKK do you think that the new housing for the 901 will allow touch screen tinkering.

JKK said...

yes, both 900 and 901 will be ok for touch mod... more about that soon..

The Eee badge looks like the kind of font you'd see on a frilly wedding invitation in the 1980s. I can think of hundreds of better ones that would have looked more contemporary!

Why do the pictures get smaller when I click on them?

The blog is nice. I like it very much. Laptop batteries

jkmobile,
Thanks for your great advice - great job. With regard to adding a 1.8" HHD to the Asus Eee PC 901, you mentioned that the HHD will not fit over the SSD such that the SSD must be removed. Would a 5mm (vs 8mm) thick drive fit over the SSD?
regards, Drew L

HDD will not fit over SSD and SSD doesn't work anymore when u use HDD

just traded my old and may i say useless asus 701 for the asus 901 with xp plus $215 in cash 11/13/08 i have no doubt this is going to be a solid investment since the original asus 701 from the first 2007 line was quite limited in every aspect its more of a kids computer then anything the 901 is way better or you can go with the 1000 models asus comes up with a new line like every few months its like like changing underwear for them

is Asus planning to launch eee pc with touch screen or do we have to do it ourself manually. I am thinking to buy 901 and add touch screen but don't know if asus is plannin to release a new model with touch screen.

I'm writing this letter from an eee pc, you can turn it on without opening it at all, we got them free the school donate them for learning stuff in Macedonia, i have to say also that many Eee Pc have malfunctioned during 1 week use "hardware thing" near the blue tooth, otherwise they're nice, small and practical to use..
