linux? all the shots look like windows xp to me. but i guess that could be a photo edit or something...
300MHz x86? i think i have 486 thats faster then that somewhere...
still, with a very stripped down linux it may get firefox going. but forget about flash or other media plugins...
i dont know, this thing makes sense and do not make sense at the same time.
as in, the form factor is interesting, but someone really did go way to far down in the specs department...
To me it would depend on the cost. If it is low enough in cost there might be interest, but it would have to be near or below the EeePC price range. Without the touch screen, it's slate appeal is limited (IMO).
From the website:
Based on the concept of digital photo frame, A-View provides the main functions of a normal PC as well.
I think that says it all. It's intended to be a fancy photo frame, which explains all the specs. The site implies that the keyboard is not integrated - it must be docked
I like the design. The guts sitting vertically is good for heat dissipation like with the OLPC and UMPC slate tablets.
Rod, you are not allowed to like it! it's bad.
The faster 486 was at 133Mhz. far from 300Mhz :)
300Mhz was pentium II génération or K6 for amd.
I'd pay $99-$149 for one (with WiFi).
I personally think that this will struggle when compared to the eeePC, although that all depends on the price. As tnkgrl said if there is WiFi then this may have some interest, but a 300mhz processor really wont run much!
Hmm, CPU description calls it a small 486. There is a few reviews of devices (A-Book AW-300) with similar specs that can be brought now in Taiwan. Costing $200 US dollars. This makes it a cheap enough toy. We'll just see how this pans out. It could be a great productivity toy for kids at $100.
You should look at the £99 Elonex One Laptop it is this !!!
Elonex ONE - Reservation Deposit

I think that for a sub-£100 notebook, you can't go far wrong with this. Bearing in mind it has been primarily designed for the children, it won't break the parents purses, and will provide a limited computing environment. And even for a student like myself, I find I can hardly carry my 15" laptop around (I have weak shoulders/back), one of these beauties will be perfect for some basic word processing/website browsing :)
It costs £99 at the moment with a £10 reservation (Basically $200)
I'm still not sure weather to buy one or not???
It's better than you think!
No its worse much worse the software shipped with it is damn poor.Limited browser and how they expect anybody to use the 8 page instruction manual.Little help.It a piece of crap by an old laptop and stick a decent distro on it.Thats what I should have done.
well, if somebody actually read another set of manuals, stopped being an ignorant baby, and just worked with what it's got already, then this would probably be a much cheerier forum. It uses USB, and pretty much everything you so desperately want can be plugged in via usb. And, if you want a linux palmtop, which emphasizes one's ability to STFU and read something, there you go...
Cont: Improvisation is the name of the game here, and it's high time some of you script kiddie pussies actually read something besides the street signs! Doing well with what you've got on hand, so that you can minimize what you've got to buy with what you already have.
PS. IMMA 1337 h4xx0r, BITCHES!!!
YOU CAN'T TOUCH THIS!!!
